Philadelphia,
PA - First Year Missionaries
Radical
discipleship for college students wanting to follow Jesus' model
Come join
a small group of college-age students in Philadelphia, PA!
The First Year Missionary program (FYM) in Philadelphia is an
internship for individuals ages 18-24. The internship lasts one
semester to one year, and is designed to train you to minister
the Gospel of Christ in the inner city. Philadelphia is the
first FYM location.
This program is not an academic study program. You will be
immersed in the missionary lifestyle. The FYM program has both a
both a ministry and discipleship component. Through FYM
ministry, you will be challenged to understand and personally
surrender to the lordship of Jesus Christ. You will minister the
Gospel alongside local missionaries and pastors in a relational
ministry and evangelism area of your choice. We will spend the
first couple of weeks exploring different ministries, so that
the internships will center on each person's interests and God's
leading. You may be involved in this internship individually or
with a team member, depending on safety.

Discipleship:
A major focus of the FYM program is personal discipleship. You
will be mentored by a godly man or woman, someone committed to
helping you mature on your personal faith journey. Emphasis is
placed on daily surrender and releasing anything that may keep
you from close communion with God.
Group discipleship will focus on growing as a community of
believers. Daily teaching hits major topics such as communion with
GOD, spiritual gifts, evangelism, disciple making, leadership,
church planting, missions, the body of CHRIST, and worship. Team
discussions are geared to build into each individual the core
foundations of being a disciple of CHRIST.
Housing:
You will live with other First Year Missionaries in AIM team housing
by gender. The program includes meals.
Location Description:
Physical and spiritual poverty exist side by side in Philadelphia.
Philly’s diverse culture is hungry for something deeper and lasting,
making it more open to the Gospel. AIM works year-round with local
ministries and churches to meet the physical and spiritual needs of
drug addicts, prostitutes, the homeless, low-income families,
children, and teenagers. We are committed to seeing each person’s
life transformed by the power of Jesus Christ through intensive
prayer, evangelism, follow up, and discipleship efforts. Each step
is essential as we see unbelievers come to know and serve the Lord
in the fullness that they were created for. AIM maintains continual,
year-long involvement in the communities across Philadelphia.
Local Transportation:
We’ll use mostly public transportation, such as buses and subway
trains.
Ministry in Philadelphia:
We’ll work within the context of local urban churches, ministering
to children, youth, the homeless, and women. We’ll also serve
alongside the leaders of AIM’s week-long trips and follow up with
people who make commitments to Christ.
